WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Lock Haven baseball team (2-2) competed in two nine-inning games during day one of the California (Pa.) tournament where the Bald Eagles faced two opponents, defeating Lake Erie (0-1) in game one, 10-2, and dropping game two to Cal (Pa.) (1-0) by a score of 12-6.Â
Game 1: W, 10-2Â
LHU started off the opening game with two runs in the bottom of the first, provided by a Justin Lichtenwalner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) RBI single and an error that allowed him to score to give The Haven a 2-0 lead.Â
The Storm regained composure, sending in two runs in the top of the fourth to even out the scoreboard at 2-2.Â
On a Brendan Jordan (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy (Bucks County CC)) single, Zach Kaatz (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) scored in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead at 3-2. A two-run single by Garrett Nepert (Preston, Md./Colonel Richardson (Chesapeake County CC)) drove in Blaise Zeiders (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) and Joe Shannon (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent (Mercer CC)) to increase the lead to 5-2 after the fifth inning.Â
Lock Haven closed the door in the bottom of the eighth inning, placing four more runs on the scoreboard. Francisco Taveras (Muhlenberg, Pa./Muhlenberg (Lehigh Carbon CC)) earned his first two RBIs for the Bald Eagles to increase their lead to 7-2. Â
A wild pitch sent home Gavin Troutman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) for another run. Each earning an RBI single, Zeiders and Shannon delivered the final two runs of the inning, which locked in the 10-2 victory for LHU.Â
David Keller (Oreland, Pa/Christopher Dock Mennonite) picked up his first win, posting five innings of work, striking out three, and only allowing four hits. Garrett Starr (Dubois, Pa./Dubois) earned his first save, planting four scoreless innings, striking out five and allowing just three hits.Â
Game 2: L, 12-6Â
Game two saw the Bald Eagles pick up right where they left off and grab the early 4-0 lead after the top of the second inning. Troutman posted his best stat line of his early season, scoring off a fielder's choice and cranking his second home run of the year, a three-run shot. Â
The Vulcans responded quick, sending their own three-run shot over the wall and an RBI single to even the scoreboard at 4-4 at the end of the second inning. The Vulcans took control, grabbing six more runs to build a 10-4 lead by the end of the sixth. Â
Scoring Lichtenwalner and Sean Perkins (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional), Shannon delivered a two-run single to try and close the gap at 10-6 after the top of the seventh.Â
The Vulcans finished off the afternoon, stamping the last two runs of the game on the scoreboard to claim a 12-6 victory. Â

Lock Haven finishes off the Cal (Pa.) tournament tomorrow with their final game playing against Wheeling. The nine-inning contest is scheduled for 11 a.m.
