SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (12-15, 5-10 PSAC East) won game one today at Shippensburg University (19-17, 7-8 PSAC East) and the two teams split an important Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader.
The Bald Eagles won game one, 4-3, but LHU dropped game two, 8-6 as Shippensburg salvaged a win in the three-game series that started Friday in The Haven. Yesterday, the Bald Eagles rolled to a 6-2 win over Shippensburg, ranked No. 7 in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Region Top-10 poll.
Today's game-one victory helped Lock Haven take the series as LHU won two of three. The stretch run is on for the Bald Eagles as three PSAC East weekend series remain.
Game 1 Recap: Lock Haven 4 – Shippensburg 3
In game one today, Lock Haven and Shippensburg combined for 18 hits and all seven game-one runs came in a wild fifth inning. In the top half of the fifth, LHU scored four runs and the hosts rallied for three in the bottom half of the inning.
The Bald Eagles produced 10 hits including two from
Francisco Taveras (Muhlenberg, Pa./Muhlenberg (Lehigh Carbon CC)). He drove in a pair of runs on a single in the fifth.
Andrew Ramirez (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) had two hits and an RBI.
For the second day in a row, The Haven also benefitted from qualify pitching.
Kevin Worek (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington) got the start on the mound and over the first five innings of his winning effort, he struck out five and scattered five hits. Worek allowed just two walks.
Matt Lingenfelter (State College, Pa./State College) struck out two in the seventh and picked up the save.
Game 2 Recap: Shippensburg 8 – Lock Haven 6
Despite the game-two loss, Lock Haven recorded 11 hits, but Shippensburg capped the series with a win, thanks to eight runs on 10 hits.
Blaise Zeiders (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. He hit a solo home run in the third.
Gavin Troutman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) had two hits in game two as did Taveras, who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Joe Shannon (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent (Mercer CC)) added two hits and
Garrett Nepert (Preston, Md./Colonel Richardson (Chesapeake County CC)) was credited with three RBIs.

The Bald Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, April 11 when they host Alliance for a non-conference doubleheader (1/3:30 p.m.). Tuesday's game will mark Lock Haven's "Strike Out Sexual Assault" game as the Bald Eagles look to raise awareness.
