LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven field hockey team (2-3) and visiting Ball State (1-4) locked up in a Sunday-morning thriller at Charlotte Smith Field, but in the end, Ball State slipped by The Haven, 2-1, in a shootout.
After 60 minutes of regulation, the two teams remained deadlocked at 1-1. After two overtime periods and the extra 20 minutes, neither team found a winner, and the non-conference contest pushed on to the shootout.
Goalkeeper
Kelsey Felix (Hallam, Pa./Eastern York) was fantastic for Lock Haven and
Brooke Hofsass (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) scored the important goal in regulation for The Haven.
Late in the first quarter, Hofsass put the Bald Eagles up 1-0 when she converted a penalty stroke.
The Hofsass goal only highlighted an all-around outstanding effort from the Bald Eagle.
Felix finished the game with nine saves.
Ball State tied the game early in the second quarter on a penalty corner play. The match went up-and-down from there and both teams created prime scoring chances in the second half. Felix made one game-saving stop in extra time.
Alyssa Endrick (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) and
Deana Campbell (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood) turned in notable efforts today for the Bald Eagles.
In the shootout, each team scored twice in the opening round of five as the shootout extended into a golden-goal round. Ball State converted the difference-maker in Round-6 off the stick of Rachel Bohn.
