LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven field hockey team found the back of the cage twice in the second half to claw back into the game, but Richmond held on to win the Atlantic-10 (A-10) contest at Charlotte Smith Field on Friday afternoon (Oct. 11).
For Lock Haven,
Constanza Lopez Zabala recorded her second goal on the season off an assist from
Brooke Hofsass on a corner play, while Hofsass notched her third point of the match when she scored off a helper by
Farah van Dijk.
Richmond built a 2-0 lead in the first half, before extending its advantage to 3-0 with a goal in the third minute of the third quarter.
However, Lopez Zabala connected on her second goal of the season to put The Haven on the scoreboard just six minutes later to make it 3-1.
Richmond countered with its fourth score of the contest in the 47
th minute, but Lock Haven found the back of the cage for the second time on a smooth connection from van Dijk to Hofsass to cut The Haven deficit to 4-2.
However, time was no longer on the Bald Eagles side and Richmond ran out the clock to hold on for the victory.
In cage,
Kelsey Felix made a game-high five saves for Lock Haven after making a career-high 19 in her previous outing.
On the attack, Hofsass led the Bald Eagles with three shots, while scoring and dishing out an assist.
The Bald Eagles move to 2-10 overall and 1-3 in the A-10. Richmond improves to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in conference.
Friday's contest was the program's annual Pink Out in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
