WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Lock Haven women's volleyball team pushed West Chester to the limit but came up just short in a five-set thriller Saturday afternoon (Oct. 11) on the road. The Bald Eagles fell 3-2 (25-20, 10-25, 21-25, 10-25, 6-15) to the Golden Rams in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.
Lock Haven (4-13, 2-4 PSAC) led in kills 63-58, but couldn't overcome 21 attack errors and 12 Golden Ram aces. The Bald Eagles posted 56 digs, six service aces and three blocks as a team.
Gracelynn Wolzen,
Lola Coulter and
Maddie Mitchell combined for 46 of the squad's kills.
In a back-and-forth opening set, Lock Haven rode a late run, highlighted by a Wolzen kill, to take the frame 25-20. West Chester (14-3, 4-1 PSAC) responded, rolling in the second and fourth sets with 25-10 margins each, before closing out the match with a 15-6 victory in the final set.
Coulter led Lock Haven with 17 kills, while Wolzen chipped in 15 kills and a team-best .387 hitting percentage. Mitchell added 14 kills and contributed on defense with eight digs.
Madelyn Wagner posted a double-double with 28 assists and 12 digs.
Olivia Taylor paced the Bald Eagles in the back row with 13 digs and served up three aces.
Wolzen and
Avery Smith each recorded two blocks.
Gabby Gealey helped orchestrate the offense with 20 assists.
Layla Katschilo notched eight kills, hitting a match-high .467 and contributed 8.5 points.
