LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven women's volleyball team finished its weekend of non-conference play with a perfect 2-0 record after sweeping Wilmington (Del.) 2-0 (29-27, 25-18, 25-23) inside Thomas Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 26).
With the victory, Lock Haven improves to 8-14 overall after going 2-0 in both non-conference matches this weekend. Wilmington falls to 15-10 overall.
The Bald Eagles turned in one of their most efficient offensive performances of the season, hitting .248 as a team and outpacing the Wildcats in kills (51-37), aces (9-2) and digs (53-42).?
Lola Coulter led the charge with a match-high 14 kills while hitting .273, pacing four Lock Haven players with five or more kills.
Maddie Mitchell added 12 kills and racked up a team-best 16 digs for a strong double-double and
Gracelynn Wolzen provided a spark at the net with eight kills and two blocks.
Freshman setter
Madelyn Wagner distributed 22 assists and delivered a match-high three aces, while
Gabby Gealey chipped in 18 assists to help fuel the attack.?
Lock Haven battled through a back-and-forth opening set, rallying late to claim a 29-27 win. Coulter and Mitchell combined for 10 kills in the first frame and
Payton Stanton contributed key blocks down the stretch.
The Bald Eagles kept up their momentum in set two, using a .270 hitting percentage and three service aces to take a 2-0 lead.
Lock Haven closed out the sweep in the third behind timely kills from Wolzen and Mitchell, holding off a late Wilmington push.?
Defensively, Lock Haven matched the Wildcats with seven blocks and saw
Olivia Taylor (10 digs) and
Reagan Irons (eight digs, two aces) play pivotal roles in the back row. Stanton led all players with five blocks.?
Coulter's 14-kill performance was her second-highest of the season and Mitchell's double-double marked her fifth in October.
