ETTRICK, Va. – The Lock Haven baseball team clinched a 4-0 start to the 2025 season after sweeping Virginia State 6-4, 19-5 to wrap up the four-game series on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 9).
The Bald Eagles' offense headlined the twinbill sweep, as Lock Haven totaled 25 runs over the two games.
The pitching staff also excelled over the weekend, as The Haven benefitted from quality starts in all four games.
Lock Haven improves to 4-0 on the year, marking their first 4-0 start in program history and their best start to a season since 2017.
Game 1 Recap: Lock Haven 6 – Virgina State 4
Jason Labrador picked up his first win on the season, going four shutout innings and whiffing two Trojan hitters.
Jace Szaflarski came in for relief and secured the save, pitching two innings and striking out two.
Nick White led the offense in Game one, going 2-for-3 with his first homer of the year.
Ethan Nagy (2-for-4),
Nathan Wise (1-for-5), and
Jake Ambrosio (1-for-3, BB) provided production throughout the lineup for The Haven.
The Bald Eagles started the scoring thanks to a passed ball with the bases loaded in the first, scoring
Connor Griffin.
In the third, White hit a two-run double, stretching the Bald Eagles' lead to 3-0.
White came up big for the Bald Eagles in the fifth, hitting his first home-run of the season, a solo shot to left.
Griffin followed up the White homer with a two-run double of his own, making it 6-0.
The Trojans struck for four runs in the fifth, but the Bald Eagles' bullpen shut the door from there.
Game 2 Recap: Lock Haven 19 – Virgina State 5
A 10-run fourth inning for the Bald Eagles helped lead the way for the weekend sweep.
The offense was led by
Zachary McEllroy (2-for-3, HR, three RBI) who hit a three-run homer in the fourth. Griffin (3-for-5, 2B, BB, three RBIs), Wise (2-for-3, BB, two RBIs) and
Bryce Vincent (2-for-6, 2B, 2 RBI) helped contribute for The Haven.
A pair of bases loaded walks by
Tom Rohan (0-for-2, BB, RBI) and
Joseph DeSiena (1-for-1, two BB, R) would give the Haven a 10-0 lead.
The Haven drew 15 walks and also secured 15 base hits.
Brady Myers earned the win, his first of his career. The freshman right-hander went three strong, striking out four.
