INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Friday, March 14) -
Matthew Muthler lands All-American honors in the heptathlon on day two of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana on Friday afternoon.
Muthler becomes the second Bald Eagle to earn All-American status in the heptathlon since Chris Ammann in 2011, 14 years ago.
The senior entered today in 12th with 2754 points after competing in the 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put and high jump events yesterday.
Today, Muthler excelled in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000-meter run, where he racked up 5005 points to finish 12
th overall to earn Second Team All-American honors.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Muthler raced in the third heat where he finished with a time of 8.84, securing 781 points.
The second event of the day, the pole vault, Muthler gained 576 points, where he reached a height of 3.85-meters (12-07.50).
The final event of the heptathlon was the 1000-meter race where Muthler topped the rest of the field earning 894 points finishing with a time of 2:38.14.
