SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Lock Haven baseball team fell on the road at Slippery Rock 4-3 and 8-6 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
Lock Haven moves to 12-23 overall and 2-13 in the PSAC West. Slippery Rock improves to 22-11 on the season and 11-5 in the conference.
Game 1 Recap: Slippery Rock 4, Lock Haven 3
In game one, Slippery Rock jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with a big inning in the bottom of the first.
Lock Haven, however, scored three runs over the ensuing four innings to cut its deficit to 4-3.
Jake Ambrosio singled in a run in the second,
Morgen Billotte scored on a wild pitch in the third and
Bryce Vincent doubled in a run in the fourth to keep the Bald Eagles alive.
The Bald Eagles moved the tying run to scoring position in both the sixth and seventh inning, but The Rock got out of both jams without surrendering a run to hold on for a 4-3 victory.
The Bald Eagles tallied seven hits with doubles from Vincent and
Lance Baldensperger. Ambrosio and Vicent both recorded RBIs.
On the mound,
Will Stambaugh went all six innings for Lock Haven and surrendered just two earned runs, while striking out three hitters.
Game 2 Recap: Slippery Rock 8, Lock Haven 6
After two scoreless innings, The Haven struck first with a run in the top of the third thanks to an RBI-single by Billotte.
The Rock tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third, but Furino singled in the go-ahead run for the Bald Eagles in the top of the fourth.
The Bald Eagles extended their lead to 4-1 thanks to a 2-RBI single by
Nathan Wise, giving them their largest lead of the series.
However, The Rock rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 8-4 lead with six outs to go.
Billotte blasted a two-run homer to right center in the top of the seventh to cut The Haven's deficit to two (8-6), but The Rock battled out of the inning to escape with the victory.
The Haven finished the game with nine hits and were led by a perfect 4-for-4 game by Billotte, who homered and drove in three runs.
Stephen McMillan also finished with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.
Ethan Nagy took the mound as the Bald Eagle starter in game two and went 3.1 innings, allowing one run and struck out three batters.
Levi Schlesinger pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

The Bald Eagles will hit the road on Tuesday (April 15) and will visit Mansfield for a 2 p.m. PSAC East vs. West crossover non-conference game.
