LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Gretchen King became the first Lock Haven lacrosse goalkeeper to make 22 saves in a game since 1998 to lead the Bald Eagles to a thrilling 11-10 victory over Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon at Charlotte Smith Field. With the victory, The Haven clinched a berth to the 2025 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship Tournament.
Â
With the victory, Lock Haven improved to 9-6 on the season and 6-3 in the PSAC West. With its conference mark, The Haven has secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming PSAC Championship Tournament for the second time in as many seasons. The postseason schedule will be release at GoLHU.com following the regular-season finale on Saturday.
Â
King's efforts in net moved her into a tie for sixth all-time for saves in a single game. King became the first Lock Haven keeper since 1998 to make 22Â or more saves in a game.
Â
Although King's total number of saves is the headline, it was the timing of her saves that led the Bald Eagles to victory. King turned away three IUP free-position shots in the fourth quarter, including two at point-blank range with the game tied or The Haven clinging to a one-goal lead.
Â
The defense was also sensational in front of King, as the Bald Eagles forced a game-high 21 turnovers.
Â
Lock Haven led 7-5 heading into halftime, but IUP scored the only two goals in the third period to knot the game at 7-7 with 15 minutes to go.
Â
However, The Haven scored three-unanswered goals to open the fourth quarter and went on to outscore IUP 4-2 the rest of the way to close out the victory.
Â
Gabby Gunnip was sensational for The Haven, especially when it mattered most, and finished the game with a team-high four goals, two assists and eight draw controls. The Haven remains unbeaten when Gunnip scores four or more goals.
Â
Gunnip helped the Bald Eagles hold a 16-8 advantage in draw controls.
Â
Makayla Kelly secured her eighth hat-trick on the season as the sophomore finished with three goals.
Â
Nadia Baskot, who has been on a tear offensively during the last several games, finished with two goals, one assist, four draw controls and a team-high five ground balls.
Â
Kaitlyn Collins and
Jordan Ellis both scored a goal, while Collins added an assist and a pair of ground balls.
Â
The Bald Eagles honored seniors
Anna Collins, K. Collins,
Emma Schiemer, Baskot,
Annie Peralta and
Emma Williams prior to the game for their dedication and contributions to Lock Haven and the lacrosse program.
