LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven lacrosse team fell to No. 22 Slippery Rock 14-7 in an exciting Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest at Lawrence Field on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Charlotte Smith Field.
With Saturday's outcome, the Bald Eagles move to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC West. Nationally-ranked Slippery Rock improves to 10-1 on the season and 5-0 in the conference.
The battle featured a rematch of the PSAC quarterfinals from 2024 and the two Western Division opponents didn't disappoint.
The schools traded goals and leads throughout the opening three quarters, before Slippery rock used an 8-0 run in the final period to take the game over.
For Lock Haven,
Kaitlyn Collins,
Nadia Baskot and
Makayla Kelly finished with two goals, while Kelly (2) and Baskot added assists.
Collins also headlined the defense as she forced a team-high three turnovers and picked up four ground balls.
Sarah Osmun also scooped four ground balls.
Gabby Gunnip finished with a team-high six draw controls.
Hadley Munn added an assist and three ground balls.
In net,
Gretchen King recorded a game-high 10 saves putting her over the century mark for the season (107).
The opening 15 minutes featured an exciting defensive battle with The Rock scoring the lone goal on a free-position attempt.
Nadia Baskot evened the score in the fifth minute of the second period with her ninth goal of the season.
The Rock, however, found the back of the net two more times to close out the half to lead 3-1 heading into the break.
Lock Haven scored back-to-back goals through the opening four minutes of the third period to knot the score at 3-3.
Makayla Kelly scored off an assist from
Hadley Munn, before assisting on the third goal by finding a cutting
Emma Williams, who buried the equalizer.
SRU responded with a pair of goals to go up 5-3, but Lock Haven countered with its own 2-0 run to once again tie the game.
Nadia Baskot connected on a free-position attempt, before
Kaitlyn Collins knotted the score at 5-5 off an assist by
Makayla Kelly.
The back-and-fourth battle continued and both teams traded goals over the opening four minutes of the final period. Kelly scored her second goal to tie the game at 6-6.
With just under 11 minutes to go, Collins found the back of the net off a helper from Baskot to give The Haven its first lead, 7-6.
However, The Rock regained the momentum over the ensuing six minutes and scored eight unanswered goals to go up 14-7 to put the game out of reach.
