NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championship Central
PUEBLO, Colo. – On Thursday, three Lock Haven athletes began their journey on day one of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Colorado State University – Pueblo at the CSU Pueblo Thunder Bowl.
Matthew Muthler (Decathlon),
Ryan Miller (400-Meter) and
Eric Zalar (Hammer) all competed on day one. Miller closed out his standout Lock Haven track and field career by becoming an All-American, leaving an impressive time in the record books.
In the 400-meter, Miller finished his senior year on the national stage, earning himself All-American honors. He finished tenth in the preliminary round with a new personal best time of 46.58. He posted another top-five finish in Lock Haven history, finishing second all-time in school and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) history. He only missed the best time in Lock Haven and PSAC history by 0.01.
Muthler competed in the first five events of the decathlon, ending day one of the two-day decathlon in ninth place with 3713 points. His total puts him in contention for another All-American honor, after accomplishing the milestone during the indoor season. Muthler's best performance today was in the 400-meters where he finished fifth with a time of 48.87. He started the day with the 100-meter race, which he finished at 11.19. In the high jump, he achieved a height of 6-4, tying for seventh in that event. Muthler jumped for a distance of 21-2 in the long jump. He then cracked the top-10 in the shot put with a throw of 39-3.75.
Zalar competed in the hammer throw and secured a distance of 166-10. The sophomore capped off his breakthrough season at the NCAA Division II Championships.

Action continues tomorrow (May 23) for Muthler, where he will compete in the final five events of the decathlon, starting at 9:30 a.m. (11:30 a.m. EST).
Peter Bellomo will throw on the final day of the championship event on Saturday (May 24), beginning at 2:45 p.m. (4:45 p.m. EST).
