LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven lacrosse team (1-1) held the advantage throughout the majority of regulation, but Shippensburg (3-1) ended the final quarter on a 6-1 run to send the game to overtime, before netting the golden goal to escape Charlotte Smith Field with a 13-12 victory.
For Lock Haven,
Gabby Gunnip delivered a performance that nearly carried her team to victory. The attacker scored five goals - including her 10th and 11th of the season - and finished with nine shots.
Addi Reidle added two goals and two assists, while
Lexi Bunk and
Brynlee Pinschenat both scored and dished out multiple assists. Bunk finished with three helpers in the game and Pinschenat added two.
Ashlyn LaGray,
Makayla Kelly both scored and dished out an assist and
Peyton Masters rounded out Lock Haven's goal scorers.
The Bald Eagles built a commanding 9-4 lead after a chaotic second quarter in which nine goals were scored. Lock Haven made the most of its early opportunities and converted four power-play opportunities in the game.
However, Shippensburg rallied with seven third- and fourth-quarter goals to knot the score at 12-12 heading into overtime.
Lock Haven goalkeeper
Gretchen King made a pair of saves in the free period, but the Raiders connected on the game-winner in the third minute of OT to seal the victory.
King made 19 saves on 42 shots, keeping the Bald Eagles competitive deep into the contest.
Five different Bald Eagles caused two turnovers, while
Sarah Osmun finished with a team-high three ground balls.
