LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Zack Smith has officially been named Lock Haven's new head women's basketball coach.
Smith, who was named the interim head coach in April, spent the previous 15 seasons as the Bald Eagles' assistant/associate head coach and helped build the program into one the of top contenders in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
"Zack's dedication to our students, his passion for the game and his commitment to excellence reflect the values we strive to uphold across our campuses," said Jeff Osgood, Commonwealth University President. "We are confident that under his leadership, the Lock Haven women's basketball program will continue to grow, compete at a high level and provide a meaningful experience for our student-athletes."
Smith is a cornerstone of the Lock Haven women's basketball program and has played a major role in its recent ascent. Entering his 16th season in 2026-27, Smith has helped guide the Bald Eagles through a period of sustained success, headlined by a school-record 29 wins in 2023-24, where the group reached its first NCAA Tournament since 1991.
The Bald Eagles, who will move to the PSAC Western Division in 2026-27, are also coming off three straight PSAC East Division titles and three straight 20-win seasons.

Since joining the staff in 2009-10, he has been instrumental in recruiting, player development, and building a winning culture within the program, which has featured 20 all-conference selections and eight major PSAC awards.

A native of Hillsborough, New Jersey, Smith graduated from Penn State University in 2008, where he served as a manager on the Division I men's basketball team from 2004-08.
