Wrestling set for busy week; Bald Eagles host Hofstra tomorrow and #20 Illinois on Saturday

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team is set for a busy week as the Bald Eagles host a pair of perennial powers in non-conference dual action.

Lock Haven kicks off the week's action tomorrow (Wednesday, Feb. 9) at 7 p.m. in a mid-week scuffle with Hofstra.

On the Saturday (Feb. 12) the Bald Eagles will host No. 20 Illinois at 7:30 p.m.

Prior to the Hofstra match the Bald Eagles will host Penn College in a six-bout scrimmage at 5:30 p.m. in Thomas Fieldhouse.

Wednesday marks Group & Organization night at The Haven:

The Bald Eagles will be running a special promotion and the largest group of supporters will win a gift certificate to Pizza City.

The match beings at 7 p.m. and group registration begins at 6 p.m.

Bald Eagles at a glance:

Lock Haven is coming off a Friday-night loss to local-rival Bucknell. The Bald Eagles fell 26-13, marking just the second win ever in the series for the Bison.

Lock Haven picked up four victories on the night, including wins from John Trumbetti, Matt Bonson, Mike Khoury and Harry Turner.

With the loss, LHU fell to 5-9 on the year and The Haven remains at 1-3 in Eastern Wrestling League action. The Bald Eagles only EWL win came against Cleveland State.

The win by Bonson at Bucknell was a big one as the 141-pounder improved to 20-2 with his fourth straight win.

Turner's win to close out the night was his team-leading 22nd of the year.

A look at Hofstra:

Hofstra is coming off a shutout loss to No. 1 Cornell on Saturday night, but the Pride feature a number of ranked grapplers set for action tomorrow night in Clinton County.

Hofstra enters tomorrow's match with a 9-4-1 overall record.

Lock Haven leads the all-time series 6-3, but the Bald Eagles have dropped two straight matches to the Pride, including last year's match. Last season the Pride edge LHU 20-19.

The Haven won five bouts and got wins from current Bald Eagles John Trumbetti and Harry Turner (197).

Last year's meeting between the two schools was the first since the 2002-03 season.

A look at Illinois:

The 20th ranked Fighting Illini will head to Happy Valley on Friday (Feb. 11) for a Big Ten dual with No. 3 Penn State.

Illinois features a trio of grapplers ranked among the top-20 nationally and Illinois is coming off a 21-12 win over Ohio State.

Illinois won six-of-10 bouts against the Buckeyes.

The Fighting Illini looked as if they got back on track with the win over OSU after two straight Big Ten losses to Michigan State and No. 6 Minnesota.

Lock Haven and Illinois have only met once in 2003 and the Bald Eagles lost 32-3.

Back in action:

Following the Saturday match with the Fighting Illini, the Bald Eagles only have a pair of EWL duals to close out the regular season. On Friday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. LHU travels to local-rival Bloomsburg and LHU closes out the regular season with a home dual against Clarion on Sunday, Feb. 20 (3 p.m.). The EWL Championships are set for Sunday, March 6 at Bloom.
