LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (0-14, 0-11 PSAC) got career-nights from a pair of players and four Bald Eagles scored in double-figures, but The Haven was edged 68-65 by visiting Clarion University (12-5, 8-3 PSAC) tonight in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West grudge match.

Andre Rivers (Philadelphia/Girard College) netted a career-high 20 points to lead all scorers in the game.

Nate Walters (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) was spectacular in his first career start. He netted a career-high 10 points and pulled down a team-best nine rebounds. Walters's nine rebounds were also a career-best, as he flirted with the double-double

Terrell Johnson (Philadelphia/Imhotep Charter) and Julian Bond (Philadelphia/Plymouth Whitemarsh) were Lock Haven's other two players in double figures.

Johnson added 13 points and two assists, while Bond netted 10 points.

Rivers was 7-for-10 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line on the way to his 20 points.

Armandi Marshall (Philadelphia/Olney) chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds in another all-around solid outing.

LHU and Clarion both got off to a slow start tonight and with just over six minutes to play in the first half; the two teams were knotted at 19-19. The two teams exchanged first-half leads with less than five minutes to play, but ultimately Clarion led by one at the break, 29-28.

Both teams were held to under 44 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes.

Ten of Rivers' 20 points came in the opening half as he was a spark for Lock Haven.

Midway through the second half, Lock Haven held a five point lead, but Clarion went on a late run that put the Golden Eagles in charge.

Lock Haven hug tough and with just four seconds left in regulation, the Bald Eagles trailed by three, but a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer failed to tie the game.

Clarion was led by Paul McQueen's 18 points. He also had a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Golden Eagles got 16 points off the bench, which proved to be another big key in the game's outcome.

The Bald Eagles remain home to host California (Pa.) University on Saturday, January 21 at 1 p.m. in PSAC West play.
