LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Senior
Sharay Hall (Philadelphia/Carver) scored a career-high 23 points as the Lock Haven University women's basketball team (8-12, 7-10 PSAC) downed Slippery Rock (5-16, 2-15 PSAC) 76-67 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
LHU snapped a five-game losing streak with the win.
Hall filled up the basket from the opening tip, as she scored the first seven points of the contest. Her career-high 23 points came on 9-for-15 shooting from the field.
Hall also added a career-high four blocks to go along with four assists and four steals.
Peaches Nesmith (Philadelphia/Northeast) and Samantha Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) also scored in double-figures for The Haven.
Nesmith netted 17 points, grabbed five rebounds and added four assists. She connected on a career-high nine free throws.
Lane scored 11 points and grabbed a career-high six rebounds. She went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa/Altoona) added six points off of the bench and set her own career-high in rebounds with five.
The Lady Eagles got off to hot start and led by nine at the break, 35-26. They shot 53.8% (26-for-53) from the field for the game.
Slippery Rock was led by Jasmine Cooper, who scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds
The two teams took part in “Hooping for a Cure” night, an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness. The initiative was set up through the PSAC and the Play 4Kay foundation. LHU supported the event with various “pink” activities, including t-shirt sales, pink programs among others. Both teams wore pink warm-up shirts before the game.
The Lady Eagles return to action Saturday, February 11 when they travel to California (Pa.) University for a 3 p.m. tip.
