Women’s Soccer shutout by #13 Cal, 5-0

Lock Haven returns to action tomorrow vs. #24 Slippery Rock

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team fell to No. 13 California (Pa.) University 5-0 today in PSAC action.
 
The Vulcans exploded with four second-half goals en route to a 5-0 victory Friday tonight at Hubert Jack Stadium.  The number 13th ranked Vulcans improve to 8-2-1 overall and 8-1 in the PSAC, while Lock Haven falls to 4-6-1, 3-6-1.
 
The Vulcans opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when reserve, Janelle McCann netted her fifth goal of the season.  A cleared Cal corner kick found the feet of Marissa Neifert who fired a low hard cross through the box that was tipped in at the far post by McCann.
 
Cal took a 1-0 advantage into the intermission break after an evenly played first half.  The Vulcans held a slim 8-6 advantage in shots at the half, while LHU's keeper, Dana Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass./Mount St. Charles Academy) made two of her three saves in the opening stanza.
 
Cal wasted little time extending their lead in the second half scoring 13 minutes in, on a goal by Danielle Kearns.  Jordan Gray picked up the assist on the play in the 58th minute.
 
The Vulcans added three more tallies in the 65th, 77th and 81st minute.  Marissa Antrilli, Bethany Smyda, and Abbey Mitko all scored their first goals of the season while Smyda and Haley Henderson picked up assists.
 
The Vulcans Meghan Hayes earned a clean sheet picking up her third win of the season in net.  Hayes made six saves in the winning effort.
 
Lock Haven was outshot 18-10 on the evening as Madison Taylor (Monaca, Pa./Center) led the offensive attack tallying four shots.
 
The Lady Eagles return to action tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 12) at 5 p.m. vs. No. 24 Slippery Rock.
