Box Score SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg's Jeff Ballard scored the game's only goal of the match and the Red Raiders edged the Lock Haven University men's soccer team 1-0 today in PSAC action.
With the loss, Lock Haven falls to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in PSAC play. Shippensburg moves to 6-5-1 and 3-3 in conference play.
Ship's goal came in the 79
th minute when Ballard knocked home a pass from Derrick Roy.
The host-Red Raiders held an 18-15 advantage in shots with The Haven's
Troy Amspacher (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) recording four of LHU's 15.
Haven goalie
Jonathan Howitt (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post East) made seven saves, keeping Lock Haven in the match throughout.
Shippensburg goalie Clay Sale made four saves in the win.
The Bald Eagles created several good scoring opportunities with the first coming just six minutes in. The Haven was awarded a free kick and Sale made the initial save, but couldn't control the rebound, allowing several LHU players to pounce, but none could finish.
In the 84th minute Amspacher nearly tied the match, but his rocket shot just missed goal, sailing over the crossbar.
Lock Haven returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. when the Bald Eagles host Millersville.
