The LHU Women’s Basketball team travels to Pittsburgh on Sunday to face Carlow University

12/11/2019 3:53:00 PM

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (4-3) will head to Pittsburgh for a non-conference matchup with Carlow University (6-5) this Sunday, December 15th, with tip-off set for 2 p.m.

RECAP:
  • Lock Haven enters the weekend after upsetting previously undefeated Seton Hill, 70-61, last Saturday (Dec. 7) at Thomas Fieldhouse in Lock Haven.
  • Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa. / J.P. McCasky) propelled the Bald Eagles offense, leading the team with 24 points against the Griffins. Parker has marked an 18.6 points per game average this season, good for tenth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
  • Another eight rebounds from Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport (Monroe CC)) pushed her season total to 77, which paces the Bald Eagles and the PSAC. Robinson currently sits 14th in rebounds per game (11.0) and fourth in offensive rebounds per game (5.1) in all of Division II. As a team, Lock Haven has the best rebounding offense in the PSAC, and sits at the top of the PSAC defensive rebounds rankings with an average of 30.4 per game.
  • Freshman Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa. / Elizabethtown) ignited LHU's offense against Seton Hill, breaking the scoring open for the Bald Eagles after the Griffins took an early 7-0 lead. Lonardi has racked up 87 points in her rookie campaign, good for second on the Bald Eagles and fifth among PSAC freshman. Lonardi ranks second among PSAC freshman in points per game with 12.4.

THE SERIES:
  • This is the first meeting between the Bald Eagles and the Celtics, who are a member of the River States Conference (RSC) of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

SCOUTING CARLOW
  • Carlow topped RSC rival Point Park University 76-67 last weekend, and will face the University of Rio Grande in another RSC matchup on Saturday (Dec. 14), a day before Lock Haven rolls in to town.
  • The Celtics enter the weekend on a two-game win streak with an overall record of 6-5 to date on the season. Carlow is looking to turn things around this year after struggling in the 2018-19 season, going 9-22 and winning just one of their final ten games.
  • Four Celtics players have recorded over 100 points so far this season; sophomores Megan Ost (139) and Kamryn Lach (124), and seniors Emma Stille (123) and Delaney Daly (121). Stille, who eclipsed the historic 1,000-point mark earlier this season, has been a staple on Carlow's offense for the past four years. Along with her 123 points, Stille has added a whopping 162 rebounds, 24 blocks, and 14 steals this season, and has recorded four double-doubles. Stille leads all of NAIA Division II in defensive rebounds per game (11.2) and total rebounds per game (16.2), sits third for offensive rebounds per game (5) and total rebounds (162), and is eighth and ninth in blocks per game (2.4) and total blocks (24), respectively.
  • Ost, who leads the Celtics with 139 points, has added 82 rebounds, 12 blocks, and 10 steals in her sophomore season.

UP NEXT: The Bald Eagles return home to Thomas Fieldhouse next Friday (Dec. 20) for a PSAC matchup with Clarion University (2-7, 0-3 PSAC) at 1:00 p.m.
