Setting the stage:
The Bald Eagles will open dual meet action on Friday (Dec. 6) vs. Central Michigan in the first meeting between the two schools since 2006. LHU is 2-1 all-time vs. the Chippewas, but the two haven't met since CMU won 35-7 back in January 2006. Lock Haven had won the previous two meetings in 1992 and 2001, respectively. Central Michigan is 0-1 in dual action with a loss to instate-rival Michigan back on November 24, the last action to date for the Chippewas. Last season, Lock Haven was an impressive 10-3 in dual action. Seventh-year LHU head
Scott Moore is looking for his 50
th dual meet victory at The Haven.
What to watch for Friday:
Friday looks to be a fun match as both teams enter with several individuals ranked. In all, four Bald Eagles are ranked, including returning All-American 141-pounder
Kyle Shoop. Shoop will square off with Central Michigan's Dresden Simon, ranked No. 23, in a top-25 battle.
Luke Werner had plans of redshirting this season, but at 15-2, he's listed in the projected lineup for Friday. If he gets the call, all eyes will be on the 125-pound match as Werner will quickly get his chance at knocking off a top-10 opponent. For Central Michigan, Drew Hilderbrandt is ranked No. 9 at 125.

A historic dual:
Friday will mark a historic day for LHU wrestling as the Bald Eagles make their MAC-dual debut by hosting Central Michigan in an East-West MAC Crossover. It marks LHU first dual as a MAC member vs. a fellow MAC team. Last March (2019), it was announced that Lock Haven, along with the other current members of the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL), would be joining the Mid-American Conference (MAC) for the sport of wrestling this season. It was a historic moment for college wrestling and one that made the MAC the second largest wrestling conference in the country.

Ray Bernot,
Larry Brown,
Tyler Dilley,
Colin Fegley,
Imran Heard,
Brandon Loperfido,
Matt Maloney,

Jonathan Ross and
Chase Stephens.
LHU's last time out:
On Sunday, December 1, the Bald Eagles hosted the annual Mat-Town Open and Lock Haven dominated the field. LHU crowned four champions and five others placed second. Leading the way for Lock Haven was champions
Luke Werner,
Cole Manley,
Jonathan Ross and
Austin Bell. Werner was an impressive 5-0 with a tech fall, two majors and two pins on the way to a title at 125 pounds. Manley was 3-0 with one tech fall on the way to the championship at 133. Ross continued to impress, and went 5-0 with two techs on the way to the individual title at 157. Bell went 3-0 with two pins and won the 165-pound bracket.
National qualifiers return:
Last season (2018-19), Lock Haven sent a total of six Bald Eagles to the 2019 NCAA Division I National Championships in Pittsburgh. Four of those six return this season in the form of redshirt-seniors
DJ Fehlman (133),
Kyle Shoop (141),
Alex Klucker (157) and
Corey Hazel (184). Shoop, a returning All-American (7th, 141), is a three-time national qualifier. Fehlman, Klucker and Hazel are all two-time NCAA qualifiers.
The march toward 100 wins:
DJ Fehlman currently has 94 career wins as he looks to become LHUs 22nd 100-match winner. Senior
Jared Siegrist is also inching closer to 100 wins. He has 76 career victories as a Bald Eagle, while
Luke Werner, a junior, sits on 71 career wins.
All-American Shoop leads the way:
On November 23 at the Navy Classic, returning All-American
Kyle Shoop made his highly anticipated 2019-20 season debut. He finished second after going 4-1 vs. tough early-season competition. Shoop, a three-time NCAA tournament qualifier, has led the nation in Division I tech falls in each of the last two seasons. He's the career school record holder in tech falls and moving up the all-time win list (112 wins). Shoop reached 100 wins last year, becoming the 21st Bald Eagle to do so. He currently has 112 wins, which ties him for the 10th most in school history. Shoop finished seventh last year at the NCAA Tournament at 141 pounds.
Up next:
Following Saturday's (Dec. 7) action at the Patriot Open, the Bald Eagles will turn their attention to Navy and the 2019 "Rumble in the Jungle." This season, Lock Haven will take on Navy in the second "Rumble in the Jungle" hosted by Red Lion High School. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start on Friday, December 13. LHU will also be in action on Saturday, December 14 at the Messiah Duals.
