Setting the stage:
After a pair of road duals last week, the No. 22 Lock Haven University wrestling team is set to return home this weekend for a pair of Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) duals. The Bald Eagles will open the weekend at home on Friday (Feb. 8) vs. Rider at 6 p.m. LHU will close the weekend Sunday (Feb. 10) vs. longtime-league rival Clarion at 2 p.m.
On Friday, the LHU wrestling team is calling for a 'Crimson-Out' as all fans are encouraged to wear crimson in support of the Bald Eagles. Sundays will mark Lock Haven's annual LHU wrestling Alumni Day.
The Bald Eagles are coming off a Sunday loss to nationally-ranked Cornell and are 6-3 overall. Lock Haven is a perfect 3-0 in EWL action with wins over George Mason, Bloomsburg and Edinboro.
Rider is 7-3 overall and 4-0 in EWL action. Last year, Rider beat Lock Haven 22-12, but LHU controls the all-time series at 16-9. The last Bald Eagles' win however came back in 2002 (Dec. 7, 2002) and Rider has won eight straight vs. The Haven. Since joining the EWL for the 2013-14 season, the Broncs have topped Lock Haven in every league dual. Rider will compete at Bloomsburg Sunday.
Clarion is 5-5 overall and 2-1 in EWL action. Last season, Lock Haven extended its recent win streak over Clarion to four with a 28-12 victory. All-time, the Bald Eagles are 31-22-2 vs. the Golden Eagles of Clarion. Clarion will wrestle at Cleveland State Friday.
On the season, LHU is 2-0 vs. Division I Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponents, while Clarion is 1-0.
