LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (8-5, 5-3 PSAC) hits the road this weekend to face Shepherd (10-4, 4-4 PSAC) in another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East matchup. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.
RECAP:
- The Bald Eagles snapped their two-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 76-47 victory over the Mansfield Mounties. All 11 Lock Haven players recorded at least one point as a balanced effort helped the Bald Eagles dominate the Mounties from start to finish.
- Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) led the Bald Eagles with 14 points, nailing four of five three-point attempts and going a perfect two for two from the free throw stripe, increasing her PSAC leading free throw percentage to .909. Devine's .909 free throw mark also places her in the top 15 in NCAA Division II Women's Basketball.
- Freshman Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) continues to lead the Bald Eagles in points with 162 (12.5/game) after notching 11 points against the Mountaineers. Lonardi also added six rebounds and a season-high two steals.
- Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn), Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley), and Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) all chipped in with eight points, while freshman Jacalyn Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center) added a season-high seven points.
THE SERIES:
- This will be the first meeting between the Bald Eagles and the Rams dating back to the 2010 season. Shepherd, located in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, joined the PSAC for the 2019-20 season, having previously competed in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) since its inception in 2013.
SCOUTING SHEPHERD:
- Shepherd enters the weekend after falling 60-66 to No. 15 California University of Pennsylvania this past Wednesday evening (Jan. 8). The Rams started the season with a six-game winning streak before Mercyhurst handed them their first loss on Nov. 24. All four of the Rams losses this season have come against PSAC teams.
- Freshman Abby Beeman has been one of the most lethal scorers in the PSAC this season, notching 281 points (20.1/game) to lead all PSAC freshmen in scoring and sit fourth overall in the conference. Beeman also leads the conference with 90 assists, and has totaled 528 minutes on the court this season, the most of any player in the conference.
- The duo of Marley McLaughlin and Sydney Clayton, both juniors, have helped propel the Rams offense this season, tallying 261 and 244 points respectively. Both McLaughlin and Clayton led the Rams against Cal. U, recording 21 points apiece. In addition, Clayton has recorded 105 rebounds this season (7.5/game), good for seventh in the conference.
- Beeman, McLaughlin, and Clayton all rank in the top 10 scorers in the PSAC this season.
