LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (11-11, 8-9 PSAC East) is set to face the Shippensburg Raiders (17-7, 14-4 PSAC East) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East matchup this Saturday, February 15, with tip-off set for 1:00 p.m.
THE SERIES:
- This is the second meeting between the Bald Eagles and Shippensburg this season, the first of which came on Jan. 25, a 71- 60 win for the Raiders. The first and second quarters played out as expected with two evenly matched teams, as Shippensburg took a two-point lead into the break. Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) poured on the points in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough as the Raiders pulled away late to secure the victory.
- Lock Haven is 2-2 in the last four meetings with Shippensburg, and are 5-11 against the Raiders dating back to 2010-11 season.
NEED TO KNOW:
- The Raiders enter the weekend on a four-game win streak after downing the Millersville Marauders 84-79 last night (Feb. 12).
- Shippensburg junior Ariel Jones was named the PSAC East Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week on Wednesday after averaging 35.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game last week in a pair of wins for Shippensburg.
- Lock Haven fell to Kutztown last Saturday (Feb 8.) 61-70 in a back-and-forth matchup. The Bald Eagles took an early lead, but Kutztown was able to separate themselves in the final minutes, fending off LHU's offense to secure the victory.
- Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) led the Bald Eagles against the Golden Bears with a season-high 26 points, finishing in double-digits for the third consecutive game. Lonardi added 14 points, 12 of which came from outside the arc. Lonardi's four three-pointers tied her career-high, which she set earlier that week when she recorded four 3's against Mansfield on February 5.
- Falling just one point short of a double-double, Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) added nine points and 10 rebounds while tying a season-high 35 minutes on the court. Redman has now recorded 10 rebounds in two consecutive games.
UP NEXT: The Bald Eagles return home next week when they host local rival Bloomsburg at Thomas Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
