LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – In yet another nationally-ranked battle in Thomas Fieldhouse, the No. 10 Lock Haven women's wrestling team (2-0) soared past No. 15 New Jersey City (0-1), 27-12, on Saturday night in a showdown of top-15 opponents in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll.

In the first contested bout of the night, Kaelani Shufeldt (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina) took a 1-0 lead into the second period after a tense opening three minutes. Shufeldt flipped the script and got to work early in the second and secured a takedown on No. 5 Izabella Frezzo. The freshmen kept firing and turned her takedown into a pin as another Bald Eagle earned a ranked win on the season.

Madison Packer (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) came out firing at 116 and grabbed an early 4-0 lead. Packer kept things rolling and used a handful of back exposure points to 12-2 to push The Haven ahead 9-6.

At 130, No. 4 Lily Sherer (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley) battled No. 7 Naomi Henry in the night's marquee bout between top-ranked opponents. Henry jumped ahead early, but Sherer battled all the way back and exploded for a 7-3 lead at the end of the first period. Henry notched a takedown in the second period to cut the lead to 7-5, but Sherer finished strong with a takedown of her own to bring home the 9-5 decision victory. Sherer's win pushed LHU ahead 12-7.

Madison Matta (Blue Ridge, Pa./Waynesboro) squared off with Kayla Zeppetelli at 136 pounds, and worked her way into a first period takedown to take a 2-0 lead into the second. Matta powered her way into a takedown right from the whistle and wasted no time showing Zeppetelli the lights. Matta's pin came at the 3:37 mark and extended the Bald Eagle lead to 19-7.

The Bald Eagles got forfeit victories at 143 and 155 before a no contest at 170 took us to the final bout of the night at 191.

Trinity Monaghan (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) faced off against another ranked opponent for the Gothic Knights in No. 5 Sandy Guerrero. Monaghan took and early lead, but Guerrero battled all the way back and eventually secured the pin.

Lock Haven took four of the five contested bouts on the night, including two by bonus points, to take the clash 27-12.
