Men’s Track & Field Records Banner Day at Susquehanna

The Lock Haven men’s outdoor track and field team recorded a number of outstanding marks Saturday at Susquehanna.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's outdoor track and field team returned to action this weekend at the Jim Taylor Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University and the Bald Eagles turned in a stellar all-around effort.
 
Leading the way was double-individual winner Ryan Miller (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) and Justice Shoats (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer).
 
Miller won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.45. Despite battling cold, wet, and windy weather, Miller topped the field of 48 in the 400. He also won the 200-meter dash. Miller ran 22.33 in the 200 and bested the field of nearly 50. Both his 200 and 400-meter times were Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship qualifying marks.
 
Shoats turned in a strong all-around effort as well. He won the long jump (1st/22) with a PSAC qualifying mark of 23-00.5. Shoats was also fourth in the high jump (6-01.25) and he placed seventh in the 100-meter dash (11.41).
 
The Haven men won the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 43.25. The Bald Eagles also won the 4x400-meter relay as the "A" team ran 3:24.36. LHU had three 4x4 relay teams finish among the top-10 today as The Haven showed its depth, and paced the field.
 
The Bald Eagles turned in a stellar effort in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Morgan Gavitt (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) was second overall with a PSAC mark of 9:44.73. Tanner Walter (New Columbia, Pa./Milton) was fourth and Cade McLaughlin (Wyomissing, Pa./Berks Catholic) was sixth. Both Walter and McLaughlin hit PSAC marks with times of 10:00.62 and 10:08.24, respectively. Noah Shedden (Canton, Pa./North Penn – Liberty) and Austin Melius (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) cracked the top-10 in the steeplechase with runs of 10:24.16 and 10:30.80, respectively.
 
Matt Reinard (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a PSAC mark of 16.06. He returned to take third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.81, and Aydan Summers (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a run of 1:01.96.
 
In the 800-meter run, Andrew Wehrle (Punxsutawney, Pa./ Punxsutawney) ran to a PSAC mark with a fourth-place finish (1:57.10). Kirk Stewart (South Park, Pa./South Park) was ninth (1:58.81).
 
Chris Hine (Plains, Pa./Holy Redeemer) and Vincent Fennell (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished seventh (4:09.08) and eighth (4:09.99), respectively, in the 1,500-meter run.
 
Michael Lawrence (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) ran well at 200 meters and placed fourth overall with a time of 22.85. Jimmy Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) added a top-10 (ninth) finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.55. Kevin Taylor (Bellefonte, Pa./Erie County Home Schoolers) finished sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 13-01.5.
 
In the triple jump, both Chase Young (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) and Ben Cornish (Westfield, Pa./Coudersport Area) cracked the top-10. Young was sixth (39-07.75) and Cornish was ninth (37-10.75).
 
The meet officially started Friday with the hammer throw and shot put events. Nathan Fetchkan (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) led the way with a ninth place showing in the shot. His throw of 40-09.5 helped him placed ninth of 39. Fetchkan also finished 10th in the hammer throw and Nathan Govern (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was 11th, as the two threw 136-06 and 135-04, respectively.
 
Up Next for Lock Haven:
Lock Haven will return to action on Thursday, March 30 on the first of three days (March 30 – April 1) of competition at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary.
