PREVIEW: Men’s Soccer opens 2024 season Thursday at home

The Bald Eagles are set to open the 2024 season at home on Thursday (Sept. 5) against Chestnut Hill. The Haven will close out the weekend with a home match vs. Bloomsburg on Sunday (Sept. 8)

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven men's soccer team will open the 2024 season at home in a non-conference contest against Chestnut Hill, set for Thursday (Sept. 5) at Hubert Jack Stadium.
 
Setting the Stage:
Lock Haven opens the season Thursday vs. Chestnut Hill. The match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Hubert Jack Stadium.
 
On Sunday, Sept. 8, the Bald Eagles will host Bloomsburg at 3 p.m. Bloomsburg was 11-4-5 overall last year and competed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Lock Haven Department of Athletics, in partnership with the Athletic Communications and Marketing office, is excited to offer fans and followers of the Bald Eagles a new way to access game day information while in attendance with the introduction of digital programs at home events for the 2024-25 academic year.
 
Preseason Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Rankings:
On Aug. 14, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) announced the 2024 Preseason Coaches' Poll with Lock Haven picked to finish third in the West. The Bald Eagles received one first-place vote and will move to the PSAC West for the 2024 season after a 4-6-2 run in PSAC East play last season. Gannon received five of six first-place votes and was tabbed as the preseason favorite. Seton Hill was picked as the No. 2. Rounding out the coaches' poll were No. 4 Slippery Rock, No. 5 California (Pa.), and No. 6 Pitt-Johnstown.
 
A Look at the Schedule:
Lock Haven opens the season with five home games. Following the pair of contests this weekend, the Bald Eagles will host Daemen (N.Y.) on Sept. 11, California (Pa.) on Sept. 15, and Millersville on Sept. 21. In all, Lock Haven will have a 10-game home slate for the 2024 season. Lock Haven's game vs. California (Pa.) will serve as their PSAC West opener. The Bald Eagles return to the Western Division for the first time since 2009.
 
Lock Haven's first road contest will come against East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
 
Overall, the Bald Eagles finished with a record of 7-8-3 last season, with five wins coming on the road.
 
Top Returners:
2023 Statistics
Patrick Long '08 will enter his seventh season as the head coach of Lock Haven and returns a strong set of players for the 2024 season.
 
As far as returners go, leading the way is two-time First Team All-PSAC selection Connor Swope. He started 17 games last season, finishing with three goals and two assists (eight points). Back in 2022, Swope scored five goals and finished with 14 points, after scoring three goals in 2021 as a rookie.
 
Duc Do is another experienced veteran who provides leadership all over the pitch. A three-year starter, Do started 15 games and appeared in all 18 as a junior. Do has 55 appearances and 47 starts in his career and is tasked with controlling possession and leading the charge in the midfield.
 
Two-sport athlete and All-PSAC track and field athlete Austin Kravetz netted a pair of goals and made 17 appearances on the year.  
 
Goalkeeper Brady Freiwald will return to The Haven for the 2024 season. Last year, Freiwald finished with 62 saves, a .721 save percentage, and 1.34 goals-against-average. Freiwald's 62 saves were the second-most in the PSAC and helped the Bald Eagles register five shutouts.
 
Newcomers:
The Bald Eagles welcome a deep and versatile recruiting class, which was announced on July 30. Caleb Anderson, Swaynee Queen Jr., Jason Stark, Carter Rosno, Evan Jennings, Bruno Torrance, Ethan Beck, Colin McCarthy, Carson Peck, Camden Marquette, and Billy Lawrence make up the 2024 recruiting class.
