Women’s Wrestling set to open 2025-26 season by competing in the Princeton Open in New Jersey

The Lock Haven women’s wrestling team will travel to Princeton, N.J. Sunday, Nov. 2, starting the season at the Princeton Open

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven women's wrestling team is ready to start a new season this Sunday, Nov. 2, when it heads to New Jersey for the Princeton Open.
 
On Sunday, the Bald Eagles will start their quest to defend their first-ever Region 2 Team Championship from a season ago.
 
The Haven had a strong showing last year at Princeton and finished with 11 place winners and two individual champions.

HEAD COACH MATT LACKEY
The 2025-26 season will mark Matt Lackey's fourth at the helm of a program that soared to new heights during Lackey's first three years as head coach. The Bald Eagles were consistently nationally ranked under Lackey in his first three seasons and in 2024-25 The Haven won its first-ever Region 2 Team Championship.

NOTABLES 
  • Sent a program record 10 wrestlers to the NCWWC National Championship a year ago
  • Returning seven of the 10 National Championship qualifiers, including All-American Azariah Moore (180), Jayleah Pletz (124), Trinity Monaghan (207), Summer Batts (103), Marisa Rumsey (138), Lindsey Laws (207) and Avery Ryhal (160)
  • Young and hungry group, roster features only two seniors, Monaghan and Mackenzie DelVecchio (117)
  • Monaghan, Pletz, Moore and Isabella DeVito (131) look to continue to climb the Lock Haven all-time wins ladder
  • The Bald Eagles finished last year with a record of 11-9
  • The Haven returns 14 wrestlers from a season ago
  • Strong class of nine incoming freshmen to round out the team, headlined by 2024 PIAA State Champions Charlotte Gilfoil (138) and Journie Rodriguez (117). Read about the entire recruiting class here.
  • The Women's wrestling team continues to make a splash on the national scene under head coach Matt Lackey, who holds a 19-9 career record with The Haven.

The Road Ahead:
The Haven will open the year with back-to-back tournament appearances with the Princeton Open and the Adrian Open. The Bald Eagles will then travel to Collegeville, Pa., on Nov. 13 to take on Ursinus
 
Lock Haven's first home match will be on Nov.16th, where they will host Lehigh.
 
The Bald Eagles will head to East Stroudsburg on Feb. 21 for the Region 2 Championships.
 
The 2024-25 National Championships will take place in Coralville, Iowa, from March 6-7 at the Xtreme Arena.
