Women’s Wrestling opens 2025 National Championships in Iowa

The Lock Haven women’s wrestling program sent a program-record 10 athletes to the 2025 NCWWC National Championship

CORALVILLE, Iowa (Friday, March 7) – The Lock Haven women's wrestling team opened the 2025 NCWWC National Championship today (Friday, Mar.7th), sending 10 wrestlers to the biggest stage on the opening day in Coralville, Iowa.
 
Alyssa Favara recorded back-to-back tech falls and finished 2-1 on the day. Favara defeated Kailyn Garrett (North Michigan) by a 13-2 tech fall at the 2:08 mark. Favara then beat Colorado Mesa's Isabeau Shalack in the second round, shutting Shalack out in a 10-0 tech fall victory. Favara matched up with Maria Aiono (Presbyterian) in the quarterfinals, falling due to an injury forfeit.
 
Favara is slated to wrestle tomorrow in the consolation bracket, matching up against Destiny Vaughans (Greensboro).
 
Jayleah Pletz and Azariah Moore both won their opening round matches.
 
Pletz won by decision over Rose Ann Marshal (Wisconsin Stevens Point) 6-0. Meanwhile Moore won in a nailbiter, beating Makayla Rivera (Lindenwood) in a 4-3 decision.
 
Moore also had a nice run in the consolation bracket, beating teammate Lindsey Laws in a 8-0 decision, before besting Jada Arnold (Frostburg State) via a 10-0 tech fall. Moore will continue her run in the consolation bracket tomorrow.
 
In total the ten Bald Eagles that made the tournament is the most Lock Haven has ever sent to the National Championship, beating last year's total of six.
 
Pletz, Favara, and Moore were joined by Lindsey Laws, Trinity Monaghan, Lily Sherer, Summer Batts, Marissa Rumsey, Avry Ryhal, and Paige Jackson.
 
Sherer, the programs all-time wins leader, competed in her fourth consecutive National Championship.
 
Day two of the NCWWC National Championships will resume tomorrow (Saturday, Mar. 8th), with the semifinal round starting at 11 a.m. EST.
