Women’s Wrestling Opens NCAA Region 2 Championship; Six Bald Eagles advance to semifinals

Azariah Moore (180), Jayleah Pletz (124), Journie Rodriguez (117), Lindsay Laws (207), Marissa Rumsey (145) & Presley McCandlish (160) all shined on Day 1 of the 2026 NCAA Region 2 Championship as all six advanced to the tomorrow’s semifinals

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Seeking its back-to-back team titles, the Lock Haven women's wrestling team opened the 2026 NCAA Region 2 Championship in style today as Azariah Moore, Jayleah Pletz, Lindsay Laws, Journie Rodriguez, Marissa Rumsey and Presley McCandlish all powered their way to tomorrow's semifinals at their respective weight classes.
 
Nine of Lock Haven's 10 competing athletes advanced to tomorrow's action. The top-three wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the NCAA championships in Coralville, Iowa March 6-7.
 
Day two begins Saturday at 11 a.m. inside the ASRC.
 
No. 10 Moore (180) started her quest for back-to-back region titles with a pair of 10-0 tech falls. Moore is among the nation's leaders in that department and is now up to 19 tech falls on the season.
 
Pletz (124) also had a tremendous start to her regional title defense. Pletz finished the day 2-0 with two pins.
 
Rodriguez (117) had a great start to her postseason career with a 10-2 decision in her only match today.
 
Top-seeded 207 Laws made quick work in her only match today with a 31-second pin.
 
Rumsey (145) added to the Bald Eagle dominance today with a tech fall and a pin in her two matches.
 
McCandlish (160) continued her hot streak with two pins on the day.
 
Isabella DeVito (131) is still alive to earn the Bald Eagles team points by bouncing back after a first-round defeat with a pin. Summer Batts (103) also advanced to tomorrow's action.
 
Lock Haven currently sits in third place out of 16 teams with 57 points. Lehigh leads with 63 and Ursinus follows with 61. All three teams still have six wrestlers competing for a championship.
