BUFFALO, N.Y. - Seeking its fourth team title in five years, the Lock Haven men's wrestling team opened the 2026 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship in style today as No. 22
Wyatt Henson and No. 21
Lucas Kapusta advanced to the finals and Kupusta punched his ticket to the NCAA DI National Championship.
In total, the Bald Eagles advance nine wrestlers to championship Saturday, hosted by Buffalo University at the Alumni Arena.
As a team, The Haven racked up 64 points and are currently in second place heading into championship Saturday. Rider holds the top spot with 85.5 points.
Henson and Kapusta combined to go 5-0 on the day with a pair of bonus-point victories from Henson and three decisions from Kapusta.
Second-seeded Henson went 2-0 at 141 with a tech fall (19-3, 5:08) over Buffalo's Tyler Roark (7
th seed) and a major decision over Northern Illinois' third-seeded Charles Curtis (15-5). The senior will face Rider's Elijah Griffin in the 133-pound final.
Second-seeded Kapusta went a perfect 3-0 at 149 with three decisions, defeating NIU's Collin Arch, Buffalo's Sam Ewing (7
th seed) and Central Michigan's Jimmy Nugent (6
th seed). Due to NCAA MAC allocations, Kapusta already punched his first ticket to the NCAA DI Championships.
Top-seeded
Avery Bassett (2-1) started the day 2-0 at 174 with a tech fall over Central Michigan's Cody Brenner (18-3, 5:29) and a decision over SIUE's eighth-seeded Dominic Lopez (6-1). Bassett was forced to bow out of the tournament due to injury in his third match.

Nick Stampoulos (157) also advanced to tomorrow.
Fourth-seeded Strickland (2-1) also started the day 2-0 at 133 and will look to battle back through the consolation bracket tomorrow. Strickland picked up decisions over Buffalo's Max Elton and Clarion's Joey Fischer (5
th seed).
Kunstek (1-1) fell in his first match before picking up a huge upset victory over Edinboro's No. 2 seed Ryan Burgos via a 19-3 (5:36) tech fall.
Sottolano also went 1-1 on the day at 285. The heavyweight fell in a hard-fought 4-2 decision in his opening match, before pinning George Mason's Herbert Billips in 4:15 to stay alive.
Hogan (1-1) downed SIUE's Nick Nosler with a 15-0 (5:30) tech fall to kick off his Championship before falling to Ohio's second-seeded Zayne Lehman by decision.
Gautreau (2-1) jumped out to a 2-0 start with a tech fall (4:13) victory over NIU's Ian Smith and a 9-5 decision over SIUE's Deron Pulliam (4
th seed). Gautreau fell via decision in his third match.
Stampoulos (1-1) rounded out the Bald Eagles' 1-1 wrestlers after taking down Clarion's Wesley Barnes with an 11-1 major decision.
Lock Haven entered the tournament having won three of the previous four MAC team titles.
The 2026 MAC Championship will continue tomorrow (Saturday, March 6). Day 2 action Saturday is set for an 11:30 a.m. start (consolation quarterfinals) and the finals are set for 3 p.m.
