Bill Skerpon '41 holds a prominent place in Lock Haven athletics history as the school's first All-American in any sport. Competing in the highly regarded NCAA Boxing Championships of 1941, which featured both large universities and small colleges without divisions. Skerpon earned a third-place finish at 145 pounds.

Over three years of varsity competition, he lost only three bouts, establishing himself as one of the top boxers in the nation.

In addition to his success in the ring, Skerpon was a versatile athlete, excelling in track and field. He placed second in the pole vault at the 1940 PSAC Championships.

Following his collegiate career, Skerpon served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. After returning home, he spent more than two decades shaping young athletes as a teacher, coach, and administrator at Sayre High School. From 1957 to 1981, he coached football, golf, and track, and also served for several years as the district's athletic director.
